On March 28, the first light public housing project: Light Public Housing at Yau Pok Road, Yuen Long, which was fully equipped with Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) modules manufactured by China Construction Science and Industry Corporation Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Construction, was officially occupied. The first batch of successful applicants moved into their warm new homes!
Light Public Housing at Yau Pok Road, Yuen Long (hereinafter referred to as the "Project") is the first light public housing project to be delivered for use. It is planned to operate for 5 years, and includes 1,767 14-square-meter housing units for 1-2 people and 389 26-square-meter housing units for 3-4 people.
Relying on the intelligent manufacturing production line of modular products of China Construction Science and Industry Corporation Ltd., the Project transforms traditional high-altitude on-site construction into flat assembly-line operations within factories. From large living facilities such as kitchens and bathrooms to small daily necessities such as soap trays and shelves, more than 95% of the manufacturing work is transferred to factories, effectively reducing the complexity and time of on-site construction. Compared with traditional construction methods, it can save 50%-60% of construction time, and the cost of on-site workers is 30% of Hong Kong's traditional construction methods. While shortening the construction time, it also further reduces the construction cost.
The Project utilizes the Full MiC technology, which features higher installation/dismantling efficiency and greater material reusability, and uses government and private land that is idle in the short term to quickly build light public housing. It not only solves people's livelihood concerns, but also reduces the generation of construction waste and promotes sustainable development. It will also bring an exemplary benchmark for Hong Kong's construction industry and the mainland's urban renewal, renovation of old communities, and affordable housing construction.
